How it all started…

From a young age, I have had a love for writing. However, the story does not immediately begin with me being an avid reader or even much of a literate student. I was a quiet girl in my elementary days. Perhaps it was because I was shy, did not have much to say, or was confused trying to learn two languages at the same time, but I did not speak at all in the classroom. As a result, my teachers assumed that I was not able to understand the English language and placed me in an ESL (English as a second language) class, though meanwhile, I was speaking English to my sister all the time back home. I do not remember these events too clearly, but I do remember that after learning phonics and grammar in my tutoring classes, I slowly started to develop a curiosity for words.

Much of my free time would consist of writing journal entries about the ups and downs of life, poems about growing up, letters to people I love, songs about my dreams, and stories about other worlds. Even during my undergrad when I had to write a ton of essays, I would get excited thinking up a thesis statement for a paper on advertising in a capitalist society, the way history is revealed to repeat itself through events of trauma, or what a semicolon in a 17th century poem represented. Writing has become my form of self-expression, especially when I find it difficult to speak my thoughts, and has only grown to become a passion of mine with every passing year. I am still constantly amazed at the million ways in which words can be strung together to precisely communicate an idea, or how words can be interchanged to convey different tones, moods, and emphases.

In addition to remembering moments through writing, I am fond of capturing them through the lens of a camera. Specifically, the beauty in landscapes, emotions evoked during a time frame, and the personalities of people are subjects of photography which have resonated with me the most throughout the years. The knowledge and technology that the current generation has to capture encountered moments in vivid colours originated from genius concepts that I reckon is given to man by God.

To combine these passions, I decided creating a blog would be an ideal method. However, blogging remained only a dream until I took a publishing course that explored engagement in the digital sphere of networked publics. The course eventually led me to further develop my interest for working with social media, typography, and layout design, and has since inspired me to continue this project. Only now, the change in direction to which I wish this platform will grow into is it to be a space where writing and visual storytelling meets faith.
